SAG awards focus both on individual performances and on the work of the entire ensemble of a drama series and comedy series, and the cast of a motion picture.
Voted on by SAG-AFTRA's robust and diverse membership of 130,000+ performers – the SAG Awards has the largest voting body on the awards circuit. Beloved for its style, simplicity, and genuine warmth, the show has become an industry favorite and one of awards season's most prized honors since its debut in 1995.
What's the difference between the Oscars and the SAG Awards? The SAG Awards distinguish themselves from the Oscars by their voting process. While the Oscars rely on a select group of industry insiders, the SAG Awards are decided by members of the SAG-AFTRA acting union, who are real working actors.
The 2024 SAG Awards will air live on Netflix NFLX +0.3% on Saturday at 8 p.m. EST, its first time airing the program since acquiring the rights in 2023. Previously, the SAG Awards had been on TBS and TNT, but when Netflix began pursuing more live events in 2023, the awards program was one of its first signings.
Eligible programs must be broadcast or streamed during the calendar year 2024 (January 1 - December 31, 2024). Comedy and Drama Series are defined as scripted programs with multiple episodes (minimum or 4), in which the ongoing theme, storyline, and main characters are presented under the same title.
