Cory tragically died of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 31, shortly after Glee's fourth season aired. He and Lea had been dating for over a year at the time of his passing.
Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz, both former Glee cast members, have also opened up about how the death of Monteith changed the show's dynamic. The series ran for two more years after Monteith died but Ushkowitz told US Weekly in 2022 that she felt that when Cory died, the show died with him in many ways.

Death. On July 13, 2013, Monteith was found dead in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver. He was 31 years old. Monteith was scheduled to check out that day following a seven-night stay, but when he failed to do so, hotel staff entered his room around noon and found his body.
Ryan Murphy has revealed he had a heart to heart with the late actor before his untimely death in July 2013. He told Entertainment Weekly: We hugged, and the last thing he said was 'I love you, man, and thank you for helping me get better.
