In the mid-1980s, he again obtained success on television as Colonel John Hannibal Smith, the cigar-chomping leader of The A-Team (1983). George Peppard (/pəˈpɑːrd/; October 1, 1928 – May 8, 1994) was an American actor.
Peppard had been a big screen Hollywood leading man, most famous for 1961's Breakfast at Tiffany's, opposite Audrey Hepburn. He was already 55 when The A-Team began airing in the US in 1983 but his career had been in decline.
Not only was Peppard doing his own stunts, but he also was putting in longer hours than he ever had in his career. He said it was worth it to be back on top again, and he bonded immediately with the rest of The A-Team. There is a good relationship among the men, Peppard told The Modesto Bee in 1983.
Peppard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at 17 on July 8, 1946 and rose to rank of Corporal in the 10th Marines, leaving the Marines at the end of his enlistment in January 1948.
