Michael Garrett Shanks (born December 15, 1970) is a Canadian actor. He is best known for his role as Daniel Jackson in the long-running military science fiction television series Stargate SG-1 and as Dr Charles Harris in the Canadian medical drama Saving Hope.
She currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia with husband Michael Shanks, children Mia and Samuel and two cats.
Shanks left because of disagreements over the use — or underuse — of his character, Dr Daniel Jackson, as well as the direction of the series overall. Shanks even made a few guest-starring appearances during that sixth season, and ultimately agreed to return for Season 7 and remained through the balance of the series.
As he mentions it frequently throughout the interview, Shanks does do religion and he is not afraid to talk about it. But he didn't grow up with a faith.
