The epic dance of the dragons in episode four led many viewers to believe that King Aegon, played by Tom Glynn-Carney, wasn't long for this world after he and Sunfyre plunged to the ground — no thanks to the evil Aemond (Ewan Mitchell).
Aegon II Targaryen was played by Ty Tennant, who was quickly replaced by Tom Glynn-Carney. Aemond's original actor, Leo Ashton, lost the role to Ewan Mitchell partway through the season. Lucerys and Helaena were similarly replaced, as Harvey Sadler became Elliot Grihault and Evie Allen became Phia Saban.
Because Aegon had a great distaste for dragons after the tragic death of Stormcloud and witnessing his mother being devoured by Sunfyre, he is often blamed for the death of the last dragon. Some rumors even claimed he poisoned her. After the last dragon died, Aegon III became known as Aegon the Dragonbane.

Aegon married his cousin, Princess Jaehaera Targaryen in 131 AC. As Jaehaera was the only surviving child of the late Aegon II, the match was a political one, so both bloodlines could be seen to hold the throne in hope of uniting the Seven Kingdoms and the factions who fought for each side.
