Alec Gilroy. Barraclough made occasional appearances in Coronation Street in 1972 and 1975, playing the rather sleazy Alec Gilroy, theatrical agent to night club singer Rita Littlewood. After the fire at The Rovers in June 1986, Alec went into partnership with Bet Lynch, the then landlady. He helped her drum up business in the revamped Rovers. They soon became a couple and married in September 1987.
We follow Alec's life from his first appearance as the talent agent at the Grafitti Club, to his courtship and marriage to Bet Lynch/Gilroy, to his departure from the street.
Bet is also due to marry former Brewery boss Cecil Newton (George Baker), but this does not happen, as he dies of a heart attack on the wedding day.
