Raymond Andrew Ray Winstone (born 19 February 1957) is an English film and television actor. He is mostly known for his tough guy roles, beginning with that of Carlin in the 1979 film Scum and as Will Scarlet in the cult television adventure series Robin of Sherwood.

In ten years of boxing, he won over 80 medals and trophies. Ray studied acting at the Corona School before being cast by director Alan Clarke as Carlin in the BBC Play production of Scum (1979).
Ray Winstone was the production's first choice to play Alastor Moody, a character also known as Mad-Eye. However, as the actor himself confessed, one of the main reasons he rejected the role was because he considered it not profitable enough given the large amount of time he would take to film.
