/ði ˌæktərz ˈstuːdiəʊ/ a school in New York for professional actors. It was begun in 1947 by Elia Kazan, Robert Lewis, and Cheryl Crawford. It became the centre of method acting under its artistic director Lee Strasberg, and its many famous students included Marlon Brando and Rod Steiger. Join us.
'Creative Actor' is a Theatre Practice option which lasts for ten weeks at the start of the third year of the students' degree course. It is concerned with the question of how an actor might be trained in the making of plays rather than in their interpretation.
Our founding Artistic Director, Lee Strasberg, developed a series of techniques and exercises that became known as 'The Method' and changed the art of acting worldwide. Membership is free.
Currently, Ellen Burstyn, Alec Baldwin and Al Pacino serve as co-Presidents of the Studio.
While at the Studio, actors work together to develop their skills in a private environment where they can take risks as performers without the pressure of commercial roles.
