How Much Do Broadway Actors Make? | Backstage

FAQs

Schedule. A Broadway cast member works a demanding schedule. Cast members may work up to eight shows in a single week, covering a maximum of six of the seven days.
An eight-show week is routine for Broadway performers. Usually they have Monday off, night show Tuesday, two shows Wednesday, night shows Thursday and Friday, two shows Saturday and one matinee Sunday.
The most common schedule consists of 5 or 6 evening performances (typically at 7pm or 8pm) and 2 or 3 afternoon performances (often around 2pm and called matinees). Saturday and Sundays are the most common days for afternoon performances.
Musical rehearsals tend to go for all eight hours every day, but plays tend to be more flexible. We would rehearse sometimes five- or six-hour days, says Jill Cordle, November's production stage manager. That's the preferences of the director as well as the actors.
Monday Night Shows. Monday is traditionally the dark day on Broadway, when theaters are closed so that performers and staff can have a day off. But some shows try to take advantage of the lack of competition that day by adding a Monday night performance. These are usually at 8pm.
