On December 13, 2018, St-Pierre revealed on La Sueur podcast that he had recovered completely from ulcerative colitis, but had not yet decided whether or not he would return to fighting. St-Pierre announced his official retirement on February 21, 2019, at a press conference at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
