Jolie, daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent much of her childhood in New York before relocating to Los Angeles at age 11. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years and then enrolled at Beverly Hills High School. She later studied drama at New York University.
Three times, Angelina Jolie has been married. British actor Jonny Lee Miller was her first spouse; Billy Bob Thornton was her second husband. Most recently, in 2019, she went through a challenging divorce with actor Brad Pitt.

Earlier this year, Jolie told Vogue that she intentionally began taking on fewer roles in films in recent years and “only taking jobs that didn't require long shoots.” She explained that in this current phase of life, she's “still understanding who I am at 48. “I guess I'm in transition as a person,” she added.
“When I was starting out, it wasn't as much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much.” Jolie said that she is unable to “really have a social life” in Los Angeles due to her status as a public figure, adding that she hoped to leave Los Angeles for good to spend more time at her home in California.
