Christopher Walken voiced King Louie in Disney's 2016 live-action film. This version is portrayed as more sinister and antagonistic than his original incarnation and is a Gigantopithecus, an extinct species of great ape, because orangutans themselves are not native to India but Gigantopithecus were.
Bill Murray as Baloo, a sloth bear, who encounters and befriends Mowgli. Favreau had Murray in mind to voice Baloo since the beginning of the project: He's perfect. Bill just exudes all the charm and humor that you need and expect from Baloo.
Despite his apparent death, in mid-credit scene King Louie had emerged from the rubble unscathed. While he appears to possibly be alive according to the film's end credits, in the novelization The Strength of the Wolf is the Pack, it was confirmed that he died.

While Bill Murray, Scarlett Johnansson, and Idris Elba lead the voice cast of Disney's The Jungle Book, an international version of the film features an alternate roster, including Quantico star Priyanka Chopra. The actress voices the sinister snake Kaa, originally voiced by Johansson, in India's Hindi version.
