In Funimation's English adaptation of the series, Kanda was voiced by Travis Willingham.
Despite looking like a 19-year old man, he has in reality lived for only nine years. He is voiced by Takahiro Sakurai in the Japanese version of the anime, while in the English version he is voiced by Travis Willingham in the first two seasons and Ian Sinclair in all subsequent appearances.
Kanda has openly told Allen he hates people like him; people who make promises they cannot keep and seem to fight without purpose. He calls Allen beansprout (though in the English dub he calls Allen Short Stack).
He awakens to see the soul within Alma, which is actually the woman Kanda has been searching for. Alma screams for Allen not to say it and in a last attempt to kill Kanda, Alma begins to self destruct.
The anime's cancellation was likely due to its bad pacing and the need for excessive filler episodes, which contradicted major events in the manga. Despite its troubled anime adaptation, the D. Gray-man manga continues to be successful, leaving many fans hoping for an anime reboot.
