Kevin Kline. In the 1996 animated Disney adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Phoebus serves a supporting protagonist, and his character is combined with that of Pierre Gringoire from Victor Hugo's original novel. He was voiced by Kevin Kline and animated by Russ Edmonds.
In the original novel by Victor Hugo, Phoebus was a villain. He was vain, untrustworthy, and a womanizer who did not really like Esmeralda at the beginning, and at the end when Esmeralda was killed by Frollo, he watched her execution with little or no remorse.
Assuming he joined the army between 15 and 18 years old, Phoebus could be in his late 30s or even early 40s, significantly older than Quasimodo or Esmeralda. In the original novel by Victor Hugo, Phoebus was vain, untrustworthy, and a womanizer who only liked Esmeralda for her beauty.
In reality, Phoebus is her love, and the reason she chose Pheobus over Quasimodo was not that Quasimodo was deformed, but because Quasimodo had not fully matured, and his blind adulation for her may have led to him becoming overly reliant on her.
