Everyone, please meet Murtaugh. He is the inspiration for Stray's protagonist. BlueTwelve's co-founders, the aforementioned Koola and Viv, adopted him when they found him as an actual stray on the streets of Montpellier, France. He was under a car.
Murtaugh. Murtaugh, a former stray cat found under a car in Montpellier, was the primary inspiration for the protagonist, while Oscar, a furless Sphynx, provided effective reference for animation.
Surprisingly, however, no motion capture was used in the process of animating the cuddly feline character as producer: martin-Raget revealed in an interview with Hayes Madsen in June of 2022.
While not complete clones of each other, the protagonist in Stray had its design based on a real cat named Murtaugh. He is the cat of BlueTwelve Studio's producer, Viv and Koola. Originally he was a stray himself, found by Producer Martin-Raget under a car near Montpellier, France.
