Cousin of the mighty Dharmendra - hence the special appearances in many of Veerendra's movies. Many people believe he was shot dead due to the fact that he was in all Punjabi movies being made, and others became jealous. Grandfather of Karam and Zara.
The reason behind his murder and who killed him are a couple of questions that are still unanswered. The buzz suggested that he was warned by the militants to stop shooting for his films and since he didn't obey, he was killed. The incident happened in December 1988, months after the killing of Chamkila and Amarjot.
According to The Times of India, Veerendra's real name was Subhash Dhadwal. He was born in Phagwara. He was shot to death in 1988 and is survived by his wife Pammi and two sons, Randeep and Ramandeep Arya.
Among them was Veerendar Singh (his real name was Subhash Dhadwal), a Punjabi cinema superstar and cousin of Bollywood actor Dharmendra. He was fatally shot while filming “Jatt te Zameen” in Ludhiana in December 1988, just months after Amar Singh Chamkila's tragic death.
