The show was created by William Link and Richard Levinson. Link is still with us, but Levinson died in 1987. Two actors played Lieutenant Columbo before Peter Falk: Bert Freed (in the one-off 1960 TV movie Enough Rope) and Thomas Mitchell (in the stage version of Prescription: Murder in 1962).
Several actors played multiple roles on Columbo, adding to the show's charm. Notably, Robert Culp, Jack Cassidy, and Patrick McGoohan each portrayed different murderers in various episodes. Their recurring appearances as different characters gave the series a unique touch, making each of their performances memorable.

While they cover it up, a paparazzo (Douglas Roberts) obtains photos of the incident and blackmails them, which compels them to take him out. COMMENTARY: This was the 69th and final episode of Columbo or, more accurately, TV movie. Falk was 75 during shooting yet still formidable in Columbo's rumpled manner.
The show had vanished after the 1977–78 season, not because it was formally canceled but because new management at NBC was determined to rally the network out of its last-place status. The plan centered on producing programming with greater appeal for younger, hipper audiences. It did not include Columbo.
