Doctor Who casts new Rose but whats her what it looks like
Interview | Billie Piper and Camille Coduri talk Rose Tyler and Doctor Who
FAQs
One of the major factors contributing to Billie Piper's decision to leave Doctor Who was her discomfort with the level of mainstream fame and responsibility that came with the role of Rose Tyler. Prior to being cast in Doctor Who, Piper had originally found fame not as an actor, but as a pop star.
Billie Piper has spoken about the sadness she felt when hearing that Christopher Eccleston struggled while making their 2005 series of Doctor Who together. Aged 23, the actor starred in her first career-making role as Rose Tyler, the companion to Eccleston's Doctor.
Over the course of the first series, Rose's human actions and responses contrast with the Doctor's alien perspectives. Rose grows increasingly trusting of the Doctor and comes to realise she has fallen in love with him. He comes to value and depend on her and sacrifices his Ninth incarnation for her.
Though Finney's Rose is a new character and not a recasting of Rose Tyler, it has been hard to think of her shared name as a mere coincidence, especially with showrunner Russell T Davies, who created Rose Tyler, returning to their show.
Apparently, it was all down to the cold. “”Maybe it was really cold and my lips were tense, because we were shooting in the middle of winter and I'm always in a tiny leather jacket”, Piper mused in the interview. Interestingly, she also mentioned that one of the crew had picked up on the problem.
