Daniel's birthday happens right before the tournament (Google says it's the 18th and tournament 19th). And since Daniel has his senior prom in Karate Kid 2 and never goes to school again it's safe to assume he was a senior which is typically the year you turn 18. Well so maybe Daniel is 17 in KK1.
