Airwolf (1984 vs 2023) Cast: Then and Now [39 Years After]
FAQs
The original CBS incarnation of Airwolf was canceled after only three seasons due to declining ratings and star Jan-Michael Vincent's growing problem with alcoholism.
Jan-Michael Vincent was a golden boy of 1970s Hollywood action films and went on to star in the mid-1980s TV adventure series “Airwolf.” But his erratic behavior and cocaine consumption was a major reason “Airwolf” was canceled.
Without even Alex Cord or his female assistant, the casting changes were definitely driven by money. They squeezed out 24 episodes, by which time creator Donald Belisario had washed his hands of it and moved on. It was more like “Airwolf Lite”, and it's too bad that it ended like that.
Dominic Santini was killed off (using a body-double since they couldn't afford even a few moments of Ernest Borgnine), and since they had the money for a few minutes of Jan-Michael Vincent they had String appear, but be critically wounded so he couldn't fly anymore.
The flying Airwolf was derived from a Bell 222, a twin-turboshaft helicopter produced for the civilian market and typically employed for corporate, emergency medical or utility transport missions, with seating for up to ten, including the pilot.
