It's the perfect bombshell chucked at just the right moment by former EastEnders writer Pete McTighe- and further proof that, amid a deluge of murder mysteries, this Welsh odyssey is a stonking standout. Fresh score. Think of it as a budget version of Big Little Lies, with Monmouthshire standing in for Monterey.
Although the series' plot-lines might not be directly linked, The Pact season 1 set up the idea of a vow of silence and is a great introduction to the morally grey area that many of the characters find themselves in throughout season 2 too.
Series 1 (2021). No. Four female friends who work at a brewery go to its 100th anniversary party. Afterwards, finding that their obnoxious, abusive young boss Jack has tried to assault one of the women, they abduct him and dump him in the woods. Later they go back to check that he is all right and find him dead.
If you like your dramas slow, and I mean very slow, you're in for a treat with The Pact... it packs a cracking twist towards the end and deserves credit for its originality, if not its nimbleness at getting to the point. Content collapsed.
Quite effective mid-budget chiller, which, at least, is largely explained at the end (although the fate of the two missing persons is rather ambiguous). Most scares are signposted (apart from two effective jump scares), which takes away the impact somewhat, but overall it is quite effective.
